After a three-year break, I set out again in late April 2022, returning once more to the French Way — but this time starting from Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port. Over 36 days, I walked to Santiago, and then continued for another four days on foot to Finisterre. Experiencing the entire route this way was transformative.
Walking again after such a long pause felt extraordinary, yet what struck me most was the difference between a journey of ten days or two weeks and one that lasts more than a month. After about two weeks, everything begins to slow down in a different way — time stretches, the mind quiets, and the rhythm of the road fully takes over. It is in this deep immersion that the Camino reveals itself most profoundly.
