Csíksomlyó Pilgrimage

The Csíksomlyó Pilgrimage is a Pentecost pilgrimage for Hungarians that takes place in Transylvania. Csíksomlyó became a pilgrimage site in 1442. In recent decades, a few hundred thousand pilgrims have gathered annually between the hills of Kissomlyó-hegy and Nagysomlyó hegy to participate in the mass. The day before, pilgrims on horseback gather in the same place. The day after the mass, many pilgrims gather for a vigil at the same place, singing as they wait for the sunrise.
